Television inbreeding

I’ve noticed a lot of what I think of as inbreeding on tv, specifically on sci-fi and fantasy shows. Meaning, once an actor has been on one show, it’s highly likely that he or she will appear on another. Off the top of my head: I just watched an episode of Supernatural the other day with Tricia Helfer. Tricia, of course, played Six (and Dana, and Natalie, etc) on Battlestar Galactica, and also made an appearance on Eureka. Her Acting Outlaws cohort Katee Sackhoff played Starbuck on BSG and then put in an appearance as herself on Big Bang Theory, which may or may not count as a sci-fi/fantasy show, as it is watched by a large number of sci-fi/fantasy geeks, myself proudly included. Wil Wheaton has also appeared on BBT and Eureka, after appearing on Star Trek: The Next Generation with his epic sweaters and Bad Ass Mother Fucking Bouffant. James Marsters was in Buffy: the Vampire Slayer and Angel, as well as Torchwood across the pond and Caprica on this side.

And then there’s the Joss Whedon Effect: once a Whedon actor, always a Whedon actor. Felicia Day, Buffy and Dr. Horrible. Nathan Fillion, Buffy and Dr. Horrible and Firefly/Serenity. Eliza Dushku, Buffy and Angel and Dollhouse. And on and on.

Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing the same actors crop up over and over again. It’s like little pop culture jokes for the True Believers among us. Who have you seen in more than one place that I haven’t mentioned?
